Frequently Asked Questions

How often should I check my SASSA status?
We recommend checking your SASSA status at least once a week, especially from the middle of the month onwards. Status updates typically occur when SASSA completes processing batches of applications. If your status is "Pending", check every 2-3 days for updates.
What does "Income Source Identified" mean on my status?
It means SASSA's verification systems detected that you have an income source that exceeds the R350 monthly threshold (such as UIF, NSFAS, or bank deposits). If this is incorrect, you must lodge an appeal with ITSAA within 30 days.
My status says "Approved" but I haven't received payment. Why?
If your status shows "Approved", check if a payment date (Pay Day) is listed. After the payment date, funds can take 2-3 business days to reflect in your bank account. If your status has no pay date, SASSA is still processing your payment batch.
Can I receive SRD if I get a child support grant for my children?
Yes, you can receive the SRD R370 grant even if you receive child support grants for your children. Child support grants are paid for the children's benefit. However, you cannot receive SRD if you personally receive any other social grant like disability or older person's grant.
If my status is "Declined", how long do I have to appeal?
You have 30 days from the date of decline to lodge an appeal with ITSAA. The tribunal may consider late appeals submitted within 90 days, but it is best to appeal as soon as possible. Each declined month must be appealed separately.
